Attendance

Attendance Statistics for 2004/2005

* Total number of pupils on roll of compulsory age = 1056
* Percentage of pupil sessions (half days) missed through authorised absence = 7.3%
* Percentage of pupil sessions (half days) missed through unauthorised absence = 1.5%

We are delighted that levels of pupil attendance have increased by 3.44% since 2002. This is a huge increase, as anyone working with school attendance will know. Brierton School has been recognised nationally for such a significant improvement.
Absence Procedure
If a pupil is absent for half a day or more, the school requires a letter of explanation from the parents. These letters of explanation are essential so that we can be sure that parents were aware of the absence. The school can then decide if the absence should be authorised.
We have staff in school who are
specifically concerned with monitoring
attendance. If your child is absent and
we do not know why, you will receive
a phone call to find out the reason.
The relationship between attendance
and attainment is very clear. Your
child's chances of doing well are
reduced every time he or she misses
school. Please try not to take holidays
in term time. If you do, we cannot, and will not, authorise more than two weeks in a year.
Unauthorised absence rates are part of the statistics we pass on to 16+ education or future
employers.
Success starts by being at school and on time and we welcome your support in helping us to achieve our aims for your child's success.
