Health Education plays an important part in various areas of learning, including Science, PE and our PSHE programme. The PSHE curriculum is a planned programme that aims to provide pupils with the important knowledge, understanding and skills to help them learn about how to lead a healthy life-style; diet and fitness; how their bodies work; and the causes and prevention of disease.
The school participates in the National Healthy Schools Programme and is currently working towards achieving the standards that are set by Government. The topics of Family Life and Sex Education are delivered through Science, RE and PSHE. The Sex Education Programme called APAUSE has been devised by Tees Health Authority and Exeter University. Parents have the right to withdraw their children from any or all aspects of Sex Education, other than biological aspects which are part of the National Curriculum Programme of Study. For this reason only the biological aspects appear in exams. Full details about the programme of Sex Education are available on request.
